COMESA and EAC Launch Dairy and Maize Harmonization Initiative

COMESA is working to finalize deliberations on developing regional grain and dairy standards based on the newly adopted EAC. Recent national consultative meetings held with RATES support were held in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia and Malawi. Other meetings are scheduled over the next few months. The purpose of the national-level meetings are for each country’s public and private sector stakeholders to work to together to review draft product quality standards and to develop a common national position. COMESA will hold a regional standards workshop in July to finalize the standards and roll these out early next year.
